| Indiana BMV Promotes Religion |
Bright Blessings, My name is Jerry Moyes, I'm a proud Pagan from Clarksville, Indiana. Let me first say I neither live in the "broom closet", nor walk about with a chip on my shoulder, using my beliefs as a basis to stir-up trouble. With that being said, I want to make you aware of a events that occurred on a recent trip to the Jeffersonville, Indiana BMV. I copied this directly from an email I sent to Representative Stemler, Gov. Daniels, and the Indiana Chapter of the ACLU. > 1. I discovered the "In God We Trust" plate is the same price as the standard > plate, although all other custom plates are $30 - $40 dollars extra. Also, > only one group of religions are represented by this plate. (This shows > preference to one belief system, over others, violation of "separation of > church and state". > > 2. One of the CSR's, Lynn, actually forced the "In God We Trust"Plate on an > elderly gentleman. He was asked "What plate do you want"; his reply was "the > normal one". Lynn then suggested, "wouldn't you prefer the In God We Trust > plate, it's the same price". The gentleman, Sylvester, said "no , thank you, I > want the regular one. I was being waited on next to Sylvester, and saw what > happened after this. After CSR Lynn was done, she said "Here is you In God > We Trust Plate".Sylvester said, I just want the normal plate. Lynn said, > "The In God We Trust" plate is the same price, you should take it. > Sylvester's reply was, "I just need a plate". CSR Lynn said, ok, and handed > his the "In God We Trust Plate". So, you see, not only is the separation of > church and state being violated by pricing, but also by state employees. > > Needless to say I walked away very upset, and Sylvester left shaking his > head. This is way over the top. Religion belongs in the church and home, regardless of the > religion or what the place of worship is called, not the BMV! Rep. Stemler is the only party to take an interest in these events. Our state, is at the least providing a pulpit for those of certain beliefs to promote their religion , as agents of the state, in a government agency office. Of course, in reality, what is happening here is a clear violation of the separation of church and state. Jefferson's "high wall" has been reduced to something smaller then the average speed bump! I'm attempting to make as many open-minded Hoosiers, as possible, aware of this. I hope you will spread this story, and encourage our fellow citizens to write/call their State Representatives. If we begin to speak out, we can bring an end to this discrimination. Make no bones about it, this is religious discrimination.
